The Ashanti Regional Elections Security Taskforce (RESTF) has cautioned the general public against sitting in the buckets of pickup vehicles on Election Day, Monday, 7 December 2020, as any vehicle caught in that situation would be impounded.

This was contained in a statement issued by the taskforce on Friday, 4 December 2020 and signed by its Public Affairs Officer, Mr Godwin Ahianyo.

The taskforce reminded the public that the region’s security agencies are “ready and well-prepared to police” Monday’s general elections.

It encouraged eligible voters to go out in their numbers to cast their votes without fear or intimidation, as personnel will “ensure that there is absolute peace and order at all polling and collation centres.

The taskforce, however, directed that on the Election Day, “no motorbike should go close to any of the polling and collation centres”.

It warned that all bikes must not be, at least, 200 metres away from the polling centres.”

Also, “apart from personnel of the security agencies who will be allowed to sit in buckets of 4×4 pickup vehicles for patrols, no other person will be allowed to do so”, the taskforce warned, adding: “Any driver found carrying passengers in the bucket of his or her vehicle will have it impounded, until the end of the election.”

The statement noted that “there is a monitoring team in place to enforce this directive and will make sure the directive is carried out to the letter”.

“Motor riders and 4×4 pickup drivers are, therefore, being cautioned to comply with these directives in their own interest. Anyone arrested for flouting this directive will have his or her motorbike impounded and prosecuted.”

The taskforce also urged the general public “to report any unscrupulous character or characters who would want to engage in any act/acts of violence at any polling or collation centres to the Joint Operation Command through the following numbers 029920770, 0322495411, 191, 18555.”
