Twitter influencer, Okyere Kwame Tawiah, popularly known on social media as Oktranking, has debunked the assertion that of musicians have to be based in Accra to stand a chance of “blowing” (becoming stars).

Most fans and pundits alike are of the notion that unless a musician moves to Accra or comes to the capital to engage in massive promotion, it will be difficult for the artiste to get proper rotational play on radio or score a hit song.

However, Twitter influencer and music promoter, Oktranking, refutes this perception, as he believes the music industry is not centralised to Accra alone.

He said, “I don’t think the Ghana Music industry is only in Accra as they make it seem. We are in a digital age and you can make it anywhere via the internet and using creative social media strategies. The likes of Black Sherif, Yaw Tog, Kweku Flick, Amerado and the Asaaka boys made it in Kumasi and on social media without coming to Accra when they began gaining national attention”.

Oktranking has through his page promoted a lot of musicians and their music, including musicians like King Promise, Sarkodie , Efya, Mr. Eazi, Gyakie, Kidi, Black Sherif, Wendy Shay and many emerging artistes.

The social media influencer further stated that, “…the music industry should be seen as big enough for musicians from different regions to have the potential to blow and breakthrough onto the mainstream scene without necessarily coming to Accra. It is our duty as industry people to ensure we have active regional music scenes across the country.”

Oktranking in his submission, however, did not downplay the impact of artistes coming to Accra to promote their songs or projects.
