The Ministry of Trade and Industry has said it is not distributing any “entrepreneurship funding programme”

The Ministry of Trade and Industry has said it is not distributing any “entrepreneurship funding programme”, as part of the government’s COVID-19 economic stimulus package and called on the general public to disregard any false claims to that effect.

The disclaimer follows the circulation of a fake URL purported to belong to the Ministry, which encourages people to apply for the supposed “funding programme.”

A statement issued by the Ministry and signed by its Acting Chief Director, Patrick Yaw Nimo, noted that its attention has been drawn to a fraudulent URL page, “requesting individuals and businesses to submit an online application for a government COVID-19 economic stimulus package.”

The Ministry cautioned “the general public that the webpage/website and request for applications is completely fraudulent.”

It emphasised that the “Ministry is not administering any such “funding programme” and has also not published any official notice as purported by the fraudsters.
