The Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly has initiated a campaign to ensure that most ceremonial and other key areas in the Metropolis receive a touch of the painter’s brush.

The move dubbed “Operation Paint Your Building” would also ensure that the over 67,357 structures owned by private individuals were painted to enhance aesthetics, attract tourists, and improve upon economic lives of property owners through rentals.

The campaign which formed part of the implementation of the Assembly’s By-Laws is to encourage property owners to paint/repaint their buildings whereas abandoned and dangerous buildings are in a state of disrepair, and dilapidation poses threat to lives and property are demolished.

Mr Kwamena Okyere Darko-Mensah, the Western Regional Minister who launched the campaign noted that the action was only to reinforce the assemblies by laws which say, “a household or an owner or occupier of premises within the area of administration shall keep the house clean, whitewashed and or painted on regular basis”.

The Assembly, the Minister noted, would give a three-month period to city dwellers to prepare for the important exercise which sought to beautify and enhance the tourism potential of the Metropolis.

He said the Assembly through its sub metros would engage property owners and all relevant stakeholders to be well informed and court their full support and participation.

Mr Darko-Mensah said, “we are also in the process of engaging a paint manufacturing company and painter’s association to see how best such key partners could also Support the process”.
