Legal practitioner Tsatsu Tsikata is demanding that Justice Clemence Honyenuga recuse himself from the ongoing case pending before the Supreme Court, involving the victory of Energy Minister Peter-Amewu in the Hohoe parliamentary race in the recently-held general polls.

The apex court started hearing the case today, Monday, 4 January 2020.

It was filed by the State to challenge an interim injunction of the Ho High Court on the gazetting of Mr Amewu as MP-elect.

The five-member panel of the Supreme Court is presided over by Justice Yaw Appau.

The others are Justices Samuel Marful-Sau, Justice Gertrude Torkunor and Justice Amadu Tanko.

Mr Tsikata insisted Justice Hoenyenuga recuse himself because he, according to the opposition party lawyer, the judge had a personal relationship with Mr Amewu.

He cited a similar case in which Mr Victor Owusu raised the issue of likelihood of bias against CJ Apaloo in the past.

In like manner, Mr Tsikata raised concerns of conflict of interest with the empanelling of Justice Honyenuga.

The judge, however, insisted he had no relations with Mr Amewu and was, therefore, not going to recuse himself.

The court subsequently went on recess.
