Executive Vice President of Imani Africa and President of mPedigree, Bright Simons, has said COVID-19 should inspire innovation from government entities and industry players to confront unforeseen and emerging challenges.
According to him, leveraging on core competencies to scale-up innovation will position the continent of Africa to hold grounds against emerging crisis.
Relatively, Africa has been hardly hit by COVID-19, forcing Ghana and other AU member states to run to International Monetary Fund for Rapid Credit Facility to run their economic affairs.
Ghana’s COVID-19 death toll currently stands at 320.
In view of this, Mr Simons has proposed that “government should avoid wastage in the system, design and spell out virtual ways of training public sector workers”.
Speaking at the 2020 Ghana Business Summit on Friday, 30 October 2020 in Accra via zoom, the Archbishop Desmond Tutu Fellow said entrepreneurs ought to focus on “Agro-processing, food preservation and other ways of storing ingredients and commodities to cater for the future in the face of emerging crisis such as COVID-19. COVID-19 crisis presents opportunities”.
Contributing to the debate, Founding President, Distinguished Professor of Innovation Management and Marketing at Nobel International Business School Prof. Kwaku Atuahene-Gima wants business moguls to ” innovatively devise ways to cater for customers when there is disruption in the supply chain in the era of a pandemic”.
The 2020 Ghana Business Summit is on the theme: “Impact of COVID-19 on Business Sustainability, a Review of Big Business and Start-ups”.
According to Creative Director of 3rd Ghana Business Summit and CEO of Globe Production, Latif Abubakar, “a communique will be crafted to be implemented by start-ups to improve their business operations in the era of COVID-19”.
