The New Patriotic Party’s presidential candidate for the 2020 elections, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, will win the December 7 general elections by 56.6 per cent, the Institute of Research, Innovation and Development (IRID) of the Kumasi Technical University has predicted.
The main opposition National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) candidate, former President John Mahama, will get 38.8 per cent of the votes in the polls.
The survey said 70.9 per cent of the respondents who took part in the research, attributed their decision to vote for the NPP to the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy initiated by the Akufo-Addo-led administration.
Thirty-three per cent of the respondents also indicated that they will vote for the NPP based on its achievements in the road sector while 29.1 per cent noted that they will vote for the party due to the Planting for Food and Jobs Initiative.
Also, 22.8 per cent of the respondents indicated that they will vote based on issues of health while 25.5 per cent said they would vote based on access to free water.
Additionally, 28.5 per cent said their vote would be based on the provision of electricity and 28.5 per cent based on corruption.
The research also found that it is likely for the NDC to win the majority of seats in seven out of the 16 regions: Volta, Oti, Northern, Western-North, Upper West, Upper East and Savanna.
The survey also predicted that the NPP will win in seven out of the 16 regions: Western, Ashanti, Eastern, Bono, Central, North-East and Ahafo.
However, the survey noted that any of the two parties can win the Greater Accra and Bono East Regions.
“Overall, the NPP is most likely to secure a one-touch victory with a minimum of 51.4 per cent with the NDC coming second with a maximum of 47.1 per cent,” the findings of the research revealed.
