The Ghana Broadcasting Corporation’s Volta Star Radio in Ho, in the Volta Volta region has organised a marathon to mark its 25th anniversary.

Close to 60 athletes, comprising both male and female participated in the 10-kilometer race which started from the Ho Sports Stadium through Hotel Stevens to Poly gate, through the Principal street to OLA, and to Residency and back to the Stadium.

Samuel Awini Ataylar, from the Upper East region and a student of the University of Cape Coast, emerged the overall winner, finishing the race with 27 minutes 19 seconds, followed by Philip Kwawutse, who finished with a time of 28 minutes 39 seconds while Emmanuel Tetteh had the third position, with a time of 28 minutes 42 seconds.

Ataylar told the GNA Sports in an interview that he had a passion for sports and that he was always happy and motivated to participate in sporting events, especially athletics.

He described the event as fantastic and expressed appreciation to the organisers adding that it should be made an annual event to unearth hidden talents.

Ataylar went home with a tabletop fridge, while Kwawutse and Tetteh received 32 inches TV and Microwave for the second and third positions respectively.

Other participants also received medals for their participation and were happy for taking part in the event.

Mr. John Gadawusu, the Volta Regional Director of the Station told GNA that the event was to draw the attention of the public to the main durbar of the celebration, slated for November 16, this year.

He said the event, being part of the activities marking the anniversary, was to keep the people healthy as they continue to listen to the station.

The Director said the Station, as the premier in the Region, would not relent in its effort to champion the culture and the value of the people in the Region.
