Professor Charles Amoatey, Director, Academy of Leadership and Executive Training of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) has called on students to desist from drug abuse to save their health.

He said drug abuse amongst the youth did not only affect the individual, but also had an impact on the socio-economic development of the country and indicated that the youth were the hope and aspiration of development drive of the country.

Prof. Amoatey made the call at the opening of the Greater Accra Regional Congress of the Deeper Life Campus Fellowship at Legon in Accra on Sunday.

The two-day congress dubbed “Resurgence 2022” is on the theme “Divine Empowerment for Intellectuals for Full Resurgence and Global Impact.”

It is aimed at building the capacity of the participants to take advantage of emerging employment, business and investment opportunities to minimize the incidence of drug abuse among young graduates.

It is also to bring future leaders together and deliberate on issues affecting their well-being and draw them closer to God for solutions.

Prof. Amoatey, who is also the Head Pastor of the Deeper Life Campus Fellowship at Legon Campus, advised the students to develop comprehensive career goals that would prepare them for the job market.

He added that in efficient preparation of graduates to the job market had ushered most of them into abusing drugs and there was the need for a more comprehensive approach towards rising incidence of drug abuse and mental health related cases amongst others.

Prof. Amoatey attributed most of the cases to depression, idleness and unemployment saying, “if the youth were engaged in productive venture, they will not have the desire of abusing drugs which will later deteriorate their health.” campus

He advised students to be innovative and improve on their technological expertise to have a competitive over their counterparts.

Prof. Amoatey appealed to the government and other stakeholders to prioritize provision of psychological services for drug addicts to facilitate their transformation.
