Ghanaian players abroad

It was quite a busy weekend for some Ghanaian footballers in Europe.

Gabriel Isaac Ofei monitored the various roles played by Ghanaian internationals for their clubs and reports.

ENGLAND

•             In the English Premier League, Striker Jordan Ayew came on in the 72nd minute for Crystal Palace as they lost to Wolverhampton Wanderers by 2 goals at the Molineux Stadium whilst Jeffery Schulpp lasted 65 mins for the Eagles.

•             Thomas Partey also played the entire duration for Arsenal as they beat Manchester United at Old Trafford and emerge as the Man of the Match.

•             Mohammed Salisu (Southampton), Daniel Amartey (Leicester City) and Christian Atsu (Newcastle United) all missed out for their respective clubs with injuries and match fitness issues.

•             In the Championship Brentford’s Tarigue Fosu came on in the 82nd minute as they beat mid-table side Luton Town by three goals to nil.

•             Also, Albert Adomah’s Queen Park Rangers won by three goals to two to Cardiff City. The Ghanaian International covered 63 minutes on the pitch before getting subbed.

•             Black Stars Captain Andre Ayew got on the scoresheet for Swansea City beating Blackburn Rovers by two goals and lasted the full throttle for the Swans moving them to second on the league log.

SPAIN

•             Joseph Aidoo came on in the second half and played the entire 45mins for Celta Vigo as they lost by four goals to one to Real Sociedad in the Spanish LA Liga Santander.

•             Baba Iddrisu also featured for RCD Mallorca in the Spanish Segunda, played 63 minutes and got injured against Real Zaragoza as the match ended in a stalemate.

ITALY

•             Alfred Duncan came off the bench in the 82nd minute for Fiorentina as they lost to AS Roma by two goals in the Serie A.

•             Emmanuel Gyasi also played just 17mins for Spezia as they got thrashed 1-4 to Juventus at home.

•             Kevin Prince Boateng played 78 minutes for Monza and got on the scoresheet against Citadella in an away fixture in the Italian Serie B.

GERMANY

•             Christopher Antwi Adjei played 32 mins for Paderborn SC as they registered a 3- 1 win over SVV Jahn Regensburg in the second division of the German League.

•             Also, Hans Nunoo Sarpei was in midfield for Sp Vgg Greuther Furth as they beat Hannover 96 by 4 goals to one, lasted the entire 90mins on the pitch, with Jamie Leweling playing just 16mins of the match.

On the other hand, Striker Patrick Twumasi also featured for the losing side – Hannover 96 with just 16mins under his belt.

FRANCE

•             John Boye missed out on Metz 1-0 win to Olympique Nimes in the French Ligue 1

•             Aleksander Djiku and Abdul Majeed Warris also did not feature for Strasbourg, losing to Stade de Reims by 2 goals to one.

PORTUGAL

•             Gideon Mensah & Abdul Mumin both started for Victoria Guimaraes as the left-back played the entire match and excelled, Abdul Mumin also lasted 79mins with a vital 2-1 win over Gil Vicente in the Portuguese Primera Liga.

TURKEY

•             In the Turkish Super League Benjamin Tetteh and Afriyie Acquah’s Yeni Malatyaspor lost to Bernard Mensah’s Besiktas by a lone goal.

Striker Benjamin Tetteh played the entire duration while Afriyie featured in midfield but lasted 71 minutes.

Bernard Mensah came on as a sub in the 70th minute for Besiktas completing the match.

NETHERLANDS

•             In the Dutch Eredivisie, Brian Brobbey came off the bench for Ajax in the 75th minute and got a goal against Fortuna Sittard.

USA & AUSTRIA

•             Harrison Afful & Jonathan Mensah both played 90minutes for Colombus Crew, beating Philadelphia Union by two goals to one in the US Major League Soccer.

•             Majeed Ashimeru lasted the entire duration of the game for RB Salzburg as they walloped WSG Swarosvki Tirol in Austria Bundesliga by five goals to zero.

SAUDI ARABIA

•             Samuel Owusu played only 29mins for Al Ahli Saudi losing two goals to Al- Ittihad in Saudi Professional League.
