Rice and sugar importers, Sucryza Distributors Limited, has launched its locally-grown and sourced rice brand named ‘Happy Family’.

As a major rice and sugar business, Sucryza Distributors Limited is leveraging its established operational infrastructure and wide sourcing network to collaborate with rice growers in the Volta, Ashanti, and Eastern Regions to produce and stock the product in Ghana.

In an interview with the Area Sales Manager for Kumasi, Linda Boabeng, after the launch of ‘Happy Family’ at the company’s office, she said, The Happy Family Ghana’s pride is a label designed by us for Ghanaians and the company thoroughly thought about because you tend to find stones in most of our local rice but this brand is different. Our product is a unique one and can be kept for long without its taste changing”.

She also took the opportunity to encourage all Ghanaians to patronise Sucryza made in Ghana rice.

Technical Director at the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Mr Asante Krobea said his outfit is fully committed to reducing the annual rice import bill. He indicated the ministry has been a backbone to the local rice farmers.

“We have been increasing the quantity of rice seeds we supply to farmers on yearly basis. In 2017, we distributed about 1200 metric tons of rice seeds to farmers, In 2020, we distributed almost 11000 metric tons of rice. From 1200 in 2017 to 11000 of metric tonnes in 2020 and in 2021, we are increasing it to almost 30,000 of metric tons of rice seeds to be distributed to farmers in the country. This assures the millets and the marketers that, production of Ghana rice is growing up and once it grows up, it means all those who were in the marketing value chain would be able to get enough material to sell to the public.’’

He said rice is one of the tops crops being promoted under the Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJ) Campaign and as such, the ministry has put in place a strategy for increasing farm-level productivity.
