An Immigration officer at the Elubo border, Mr Francis Amankwa died when his rented room collapsed on him by an adjoining fallen wall.

The sad and unexpected incident occurred Saturday dawn, July 16 following a heavy downpour which collapsed the wall of a Neighbour’s building and consequently collapsed into the rented room he was sleeping in that night.

It took a combined effort of personnel from the Ghana Fire Service, (GFS), the Ghana Police Service (GPS) and Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) to rescue him from the room but unfortunately, he died even before he was pulled out of the room.

The body has since been deposited at the St. Martin De Porres Hospital at Ekwie morgue.
The landlord of the deceased, Mr Issaka Kibbina aka Kopbbina Adu confirmed the incident to reporters at Elubo.
According to him, since it was late in the night, residents in the neighborhood could not come to the rescue of the tenant immediately.

He said Mr Amankwa might be fast asleep and could not notice the tragedy quickly to escape from the room.
The Officer in Command at the Ghana Immigration Service at the Elubo border, Mr Krakue confirmed the incident to Ghana News Agency.

He, however, could not give further details since according to him, it was purely a family issue.
All efforts to contact the Elubo District Police Command proved futile.
