Nana Kwamena Dekyi I, Guantuhene of the Shama District of the Western Region has built an ultra-modern one-Storey police station to promote peace and security in the district.

The 1.8-million-cedi facility replaces the 1963 simple detached house and provides comfortable offices for Investigators, officers, and command heads to work in a serene environment.

The Chief at the commissioning ceremony announced that his desire to see Police officers work in a good working environment that would enable them to discharge security duties more effectively and efficiently saw the birth of the new District Police Station.

“The security of Shama District is paramount, and it is not the sole responsibility of government…we could not have remained spectators in a quest for prudent policing in our dear district”, he said when he handed the keys to the magnificent blue and white painted edifice to the Western Regional Minister.

The Guantuhene recounted the support from the Shama Youth for Development, the Council of Elders, Maame Araba Vedu Foundation, Abontan Ekisi Ebusua and the Shama Constituency NPP for the immerse support towards the realisation of his vision.

Nana Dekyi, also known in private life as Mr. Isaac Afful, is a lawyer and the Chief Executive Officer of the Lower Pra Rural Bank.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Mr Victor Adusah-Poku the Western Regional Police Commander noted how public safety and security had become very essential and on behalf of the Police Administration lauded the Chief for such an enormous contribution to policing in the country.

“I want to appeal to resourceful institutions to emulate the shining examples of the Shama Community and for that matter Nana Kwamena Dekyi I”.

He said the Shama District was becoming an industrial hub and therefore needed such an edifice to improve efficiency and performance in crime prevention and protecting lives and properties.

DCOP Adusah-Poku said the Police Administration would continue to diverse strategies to bring more sustainable discipline to them to exhibit high sense and level of professionalism.

He, therefore, called for community support through credible and timely information to lead to the arrest of criminals.

Mr Kwamena Okyere Darko-Mensah, the Western Regional Minister said the safety of the Ghanaians was a priority to the government and hence leaving no stone unturned in ensuring that citizens go about their daily activities in a condusive setting.

He was also happy that such private kindhearted individuals had the zeal and willingness to help the state deliver on its mandate.

The Minister said the government would continue to invest in national security for the benefit of its citizenry.
